Chicago Half -- Uhh, Something Ain't Right

I know flooding probably was an issue, but not having been there, all I can say is the preliminary results at www.chicagoaa.com from the Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon make it seem as if it were about 11 miles, not 13.1 If you were there, give me a comment. What happened out there during the great rain of 2008?

Bob,

Thanks for the wonderful Run-Times.

It most certainly was not 11 miles. -- my Garmin 201 showed it as 13.4, and I consistently hit the mile markers later than the GPS showed them. The GPS could of course just had a misread early. Two other GPS-sporting runners I spoke to at the finish had 13.3 and 13.2, respectively.

Given the circumstances, the race itself was fine for me with a new PR. Some more comments on my blog.

Cheers, Dirk

You're welcome. Thanks for the info. Based on what still is posted, there is a 38-year-old woman from Milwaukee who ran 1:06.
Many other people I know have PRs by 10 minutes or more. Hmm. I'll wait for corrected results. Any more comments from runners who were out there?

Yes, the PR I mentioned was hand-stopped. The time reported for me on chicagoaa.com is off by twelve (!!) minutes. But it is early in the day... Or maybe it's the disposable chip timing? We'll see.

Cheers, Dirk

Bob - I was also looking at the results of runners I know and something wasn't looking right to me either.

The results at chicagoaa.com are correct now. I don't know what the deal was earlier, but it has been corrected, thankfully.
