Akita Wins Again at Wisconsin Marathon

Elmhurst's Jim Akita is in top form. He won Saturday's Wisconsin Marathon in Kenosha with a nice 2:29:34, six days after winning the Ravenswood 5K Runner's Choice Series race in Chicago. I say, "Way to go, Jim! Awesome job." Rick Rischman of Grafton, WI was second in 2:48:41, and Kyle Fraser of Milwaukee was third in 2:54:17. On the women's side, Melissa Gacek of White Bear Lake won in 3:04:38. Kara Roper of Milwaukee was next in 3:15:40 and Bridget Durocher of Kenosha was third in 3:21:14. There were 526 marathon finishers. In the half-marathon, Hamilton Beal of Kenosha won in 1:17:38 and Valerie Hubbard of Kenosha won the women's title in 1:29:16. There were 1,207 half-marathon finishers. Photo courtesy of Brenda Barrera -- Chicago Running Examiner blog).

Bob,

I ran WI and posted a 3:58 PR. I really liked this Marathon - the course was beautiful and we were blessed with almost perfect weather. The organisation was great with more than adequate water/Heed stations well staffed by enthusiastic volunteers. A bit of tweaking needed - certainly more Portalits (lack of which caused 30 minutes waits or longer) and maybe more live time clocks on the course. Other than that highly recommended.
