Polar Dash Dodges Storm

Already postponed a week because of winter weather, the Polar Dash Half-Marathon, 10K, and 5K came off on Saturday, a day after the latest 5-9 inch snowstorm hit the Chicago area. Overall results are not easy to find, but I'll go with the following winners in the half-marathon: Kevin Lyons, 26, of Evanston, 1:16:46; and Erin Ashley Mink Garvey, 28, of Chicago, 1:35:34. The race is part of a series put on by Team Ortho. Did you run? How was it?

One of the more interesting races I have ever run! They made significant changes to tthe course on race day without announcing the changes! The Half Marathon was changed to a double loop of the 10k course. This created a challenge for the lead Half Marathon runners who were forced to avoid slower runners going north and south later in the race!!! Despite the challenges everyone seemed to have a good time and the snow made it sloppy but fun.

Thanks for the info. It can't be easy putting on a half-marathon in Chicago in those conditions. They could have told you of the changes though!

I agree. It was quite interesting learning mid-run that we were running two loops at 31st instead of heading south to the MSI. Pretty nice weather for January, though.
