Gilbert, Staton Win Schaumburg TT Half

It was cold, but not windy for the large field on Saturday in the fourth annual Schaumburg Turkey Trot Half Marathon. Temps around 30 made for a robust morning, but some great running took place despite the chill. Winning was Mitch Gilbert, 20, in a nice time of 1:12:13.3. Second was TJ Luby, 23. in 1:14:33.5, and third was Michael Cauley, 31, in 1:14:53.3. The women's competition was taken by Pamela Staton, 26, of Chicago, in 1:20:29.4. Runner-up was Amanda Daws, 25, in 1:23:20.5, and third is where it gets interesting. Ashley Shares, 21, is listed as third with a time (gun and net) of 1:24:15.3. However, Amy Campbell, 24, is one place ahead of her in the net time column with a 1:24:05.9. Her gun time was 1:24:42.7. Things get a little dicey in this age of computer chip timing. There were 1,646 finishers in this turkey trot, which was one of too many to count over the past week. Thanksgiving is definitely the time when the most people race in the Chicago area in non-marathons. There also was a 5K run in conjunction with the half-marathon.
