Wheaton's Run for the Animals
With temps in the high 50s, maybe hitting 60, with very little wind, participants in the annual Run for the Animals 5K and 10K in Wheaton were treated to some very nice conditions. The races, which benefit the Wheaton Park District's Cosley Zoo, had 1,302 and 690 finishers respectively. In the 5K, three guys cracked 16:00 with Kyle Brady, 20, of Wheaton, taking honors in 15:12.8. Next were Brian Runyon, 28, of Chicago, in 15:58.8, and Jerry Olp, 17, of Wheaton, in 15:59.2. Leading woman was truly a master. I'm talking about Sanya Syrstad, 43, of Glen Ellyn, who won it in 18:49.0. Second was Catherine Blume, 12, of Wheaton, in 20:28.2, and third was Mollie Holzwarth, 26, of Gilberts, in 20:49.3. Switching to the 10K, Chase Kadlec, 18, of Wheaton, was champion in 32:10.9. He was followed by Ryan Giuliano, 24, of Schaumburg, in 33:03.7 and Graham Farnsworth, 19, of Wheaton, in 33:52.7. Those are some nice times. Leading lady was Amber Druien, 23, of Woodstock, in 37:34.4. Next was Nicole Lehmann, 29, of Elgin, in 37:47.3, and third went to Suetfei Li, 33, of Schaumburg, in 37:50.5.
